Saturday turned out to be quite a sunny day after an initial snow shower, so I decided to plant out the garlic I had shooting in the garage.
Father in-law had bought some garlic whilst on a holiday in France, from Spain, and had brought us some home. The last few bulbs that we had left in the garage had started shooting, so I decided to plant them in the vegetable patch. I did the same thing last year, but on the 29th December, so a little earlier, but the results were okay, from supermarket garlic. Ideally I think it should go in late Autumn or early Spring, so we shall see.
I created holes 2-3in deep, 9-10in apart in two rows, and my little helper dropped the cloves straight into the holes, green shoot up.
We then filled in the holes and then covered the hole patch in about 2in of homemade compost. I’ll leave that for the worms to mix up, which they seemed to successfully do last year. We took care not to disturb the purple sprouting broccoli that we planted last summer that should be ready in a couple of months.
