Town In Positive Mood After Successful Season

Halesworth Town Football Club finished the 2009/10 season having comfortably achieved their target for the season.

After being crowned Division 2 Champions last time around, this years aim had always been to establish themselves in Division One and avoid any kind of relegation battle, which they had comfortably done with two months of the season still remaining.

This years Presentation Night was hosted by Halesworth Golf Club and after a fantastic two course meal, the awards ceremony swiftly followed.

Halesworth Town Chairman Adrian Waters started the proceedings by congratulating the players and the management team of Bo Ling and Mark Jeffries for achieving the target they had set themselves this season.

First Team manager Bo Ling handed out the First Team Awards, with the popular Adam Richardson picking up First Team Player of the Year. Richardson's nomination was made more touching after the midfielder had broken his leg with just three games remaining. Defender Jack Holmes then deservedly received his fellow players vote for Players Player of the Year. First Team Manager Ling also had an additional trophy which he awarded to club linesman Michael Stevens to thank him for his support and dedication.

Arthur Ling, Halesworth's Club Secretary, presented the Young Player of the Year award to Lewis Wright who had made a fine contribution in his first full season with the Reserves.

The Chairman's trophy was presented to Reserve Team manager Nick Jermy, who was unavailable to collect his award as he was on holiday in America. Chairman Waters commended Jermy for his time and devotion to the club in a difficult season for the Reserves. He emphasised how important the role of Reserve team manger was to the club and how difficult it can be. The club were pleased with the progress made during the season and hoped a good end to the season could be taken through into the new campaign.

Life Vice President Gerald Ellis then stepped forward to congratulate the club on their achievements this season and handed out a few awards of his own, to the hard-working Caroline Mortlock for the invaluable job she does as both Treasurer and kit washer and to Anne Jatta for the support she has given the club through her half-time teas and her work behind the bar. He also expressed his thanks to all the local businesses and supporters from the town who have made a significant contribution to the club.

Chairman Adrian Waters followed to present the Club Man Of The Year award, which this year went to First Team Skipper Matthew Jermy. On behalf of the committee, the Chairman thanked him for all his hard work, particuarly for the effort he puts into fund raising through the matchday programme and club web site.

Finally, via the magic of modern day technology, the missing Reserve Team manager Nick Jermy was beamed onto the big screen in a 'Live' video link to the USA. Jermy thanked all the players that had been involved in Reserves this season and presented 'Assistant to the Manger' James Roberts and Reserve Skipper Darren Mann with their own momentos of the season as a thank you, before the young and promising Lewis Wright scooped both the Reserve Managers and Players Player of the Year awards.

Halesworth's Champion Feeling

Halesworth Town Football Club were officially crowned 2008/09 Division 2 Champions at the Suffolk and Ipswich League Presentation Evening at the Hotel Elizabeth, Copdock, near Ipswich.

Four weeks earlier Town had pipped local rivals and fellow title chasers Saxmundham to the top spot. Town had been involved in a three-horse promotion race since Christmas, with Saxmundham and Bacton United. But Town's amazing post-Christmas run, which saw them win 16 of their remaining 19 fixtures, meant that a final day home win would hand them the title if Saxmundham failed to win their remaining match. After winning their own match comfortably a tense wait followed to find out the result of the Sax game. Finally, via the magic of mobile phone and internet technology, the result Town needed finally came through; Saxmundham had been held to a draw and Halesworth were Champions.

The following week, with celebrations on-going, Town held their presentation night, at the Triple Plea. Chairman Adrian Waters started the proceedings by congratulating the players and the management team of Bo Ling and Mark Jeffries on a fantastic achievement and highly successful season.

First Team manager Bo Ling handed out the First Team Awards, with leading scoring Richard Idle picking up First Team Player of the Year and defender Joe Allen receiving his fellow players vote for Players Player of the Year.

Reserve Team manager Kevin 'Les' Dawson thanked all the players that had been involved in Reserves this season and although they drop down a level next season, he hoped that all the players could build on their efforts for this campaign, particularly the younger players, and take their improved second half of the season into the next one. The young and promising Reserve goalkeeper Dan Oakes then scooped both the Managers and Players Player of the Year awards.

Chairman Adrian Waters presented the Club Person award, which this year went to the dedicated Mark Jeffries. On behalf of the committee, the Chairman thanked Mark for all his hard work, from taking training each week to marking out the pitch and putting up the nets.

Young goalkeeper Dan Oakes then picked up his third award of the night when the Chairman's trophy was presented to him by Honorary Life Vice President and ex-Halesworth Town Goalkeeper, Gerald Ellis.

The final player award of the night, Young Player of the Year was awarded to Jack Holmes, who at just 17 years of age had played in almost every First Team game in what was his first season of men's football.

Life Vice President Gerald Ellis also congratulated the team on their achievements this season and handed out a few awards of his own, to the hard-working club secretary Arthur Ling, to Bo Ling for guiding Town to promotion and to Caroline Mortlock for the superb job she does as both Treasurer and kit washer.

Halesworth now look forward to the forthcoming season when they will be competing in Division One of the SIL. Training will resume in early July. New players, supporters and volunteers are always welcome.
